Chiral glass ordering in superconductive ceramics

To study the cooperative dynamics in a superconductive ceramic or a Josephson-coupled network, the ordering process in a sintered specimen of YBa2Cu4O8 was examined. Critical phenomena at the intergrain phase transition in the system were considered based on recent experimental facts by nonlinear magnetic and linear and nonlinear electric response observations. Compared with theoretical predictions on XY-type spin glass and superconductive ceramics, an onset of chiral glass ordering is suggested. The origin is due to a frustration in the intergrain interaction network, and is attributable to the anisotropic nature of the present oxide superconductor.
